  • It is highly structured. Rather than talking about your life’s problems, you and your therapist will look at specific problems as mentioned above and your therapist will set you objectives to meet on a regular basis.
  • CBT Treatment is generally short term because it is focused on specific objectives and treatment techniques are laid out in a clear plan which the therapist sets out for the patient.
  • It is very much about the present, rather than focusing on past events.
  • Your therapist will more than likely give you homework / exercises to do between counselling sessions.  This could be for example, practising the skills you have learnt in therapy or keeping a journal / diary of your thoughts and emotions during the ‘putting into practice’ period of what you have been learning with your therapist.
